GHTC issues statement on access to medicines at HHS WHA listening session

GHTC issued a statement at the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) World Health Assembly (WHA) Stakeholder Listening Session encouraging the US delegation to support a comprehensive approach to addressing barriers to accessing essential medicines. The statement notes the importance of strengthening regulatory systems and harmonizing processes, as well as encourages the US to support the World Health Organization in better leveraging the expertise of product development partnerships in securing sustainable access comitments.

GHTC sends letter urging Senate leaders to bolster BARDA’s authority and resources to combat naturally occurring health threats

GHTC sent a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP) encouraging them, through the reauthorization of the Pandemics and All-Hazards Preparedness Act, to ensure the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) has ample resources and authority to address emerging infectious diseases (EIDs), pandemic influenza (PI), and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The letter specifically calls for the creation of a separate funding line of $300 million for EIDS at BARDA, formalization of BARDA’s AMR workstream, and new reporting requirements on the agency’s work in EIDS, PI, and AMR.
