Kristie Mikus, DrPH, MPA

Kristie Mikus, DrPH, MPA, is the Executive Director of the Global Health Technologies Coalition (GHTC). Dr. Mikus has over 20 years of global health experience. Before joining GHTC in February 2024, Dr. Mikus was a Senior Policy Advisor for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where she led the Global Health Center’s Washington, DC office. In this role, she advanced CDC’s global health priorities through direct engagement with stakeholders across the US government, external partners, and with multisectoral partners.  

Prior to returning to Washington, DC in 2019, Dr. Mikus was posted in Lusaka, Zambia for over ten years. In Zambia, Dr. Mikus served as the CDC Zambia Office Deputy Country Director (2016-2019) and as the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Zambia Country Coordinator (2008-2015). As PEPFAR Zambia Country Coordinator, Dr. Mikus oversaw and led coordination of the $400 million annual program for HIV prevention, care, and treatment in Zambia. Dr. Mikus represented the US Government on the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism and represented all bilateral and multilateral partners in Zambia for five years to the Government of the Republic of Zambia and other stakeholders.

Before moving to Zambia in 2009, Dr. Mikus led foreign assistance strategic planning and reform at the State Department’s Bureau of Foreign Assistance (the F Bureau), the bureau charged with coordinating US government foreign assistance. Dr. Mikus also supported the Office of the US Global AIDS Coordinator as it was beginning, first as a PEPFAR Congressional Liaison and later as PEPFAR Country Lead for South Africa, Tanzania, Haiti, Guyana, Mozambique, and Zambia.  

Dr. Mikus began her tenure in the US government as a Presidential Management Fellow. Dr. Mikus received her Doctor of Public Health degree from University of North Caroline Chapel Hill, her Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Delaware, and her Bachelor’s degree from Washington College. She is married and has three wonderful children. In addition to spending time with her family, Dr. Mikus enjoys being outdoors, hiking, visiting national parks, gardening, and all things involving the ocean.
