Interview series highlights the role of research and innovation in global health
May 5, 2011 -- A series of interviews with leaders in global health research is being published this week to mark the release of the Global Health Technologies Coalition’s (GHTC) second annual policy report. The first interview features Alex Dehgan, science and technology advisor at the US Agency for International Development. According to Dehgan, in order to address global health and development issues, the United States should capitalize “on ideas, research, information and observations from every corner of the world and empowering people to look at this together.” He adds, “There are really bright people everywhere. So how do we devote our resources and, in coalition with others, inspire solutions that might help us at problems at home, or stop the next pandemic, or find solutions to climate change?”
The other interviews feature microbicide researcher Gita Ramjee of the South African Medical Research Council, Nelson Michael of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Roma Chilengi of Zambia’s Center for Infectious Disease Research, and incoming head of the GAVI Alliance Seth Berkley.
