Aeras announces two new clinical trials for tuberculosis vaccine candidates

This week, the Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation announced two exciting new clinical trials of tuberculosis (TB) vaccine candidates. Aeras, Dutch pharmaceutical company Crucell N.V., and the Kenya Medical Research Institute/US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention joint research program announced the start of a Phase II clinical trial of infants with AERAS-402/Crucell Ad35 TB vaccine candidate in Kenya, designed to assess proof of concept. The trial will continue in Mozambique, Uganda, and South Africa next year. Additionally this week, Aeras announced that it will start a Phase 1 clinical trial of a recombinant BCG (rBCG) TB vaccine candidate in St. Louis, Missouri, to evaluate its safety and potential as the initial vaccine given to infants.
