USAID releases report on health-related research and development activities
December 15, 2010 -- The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has released a new report to Congress, detailing the agency’s global health research and development work over the past year. For the past five years, USAID’s annual research report to Congress has detailed how the agency leverages its resources, expertise, and partnerships to introduce affordable health products, policies, and practices to save lives in the developing world. The 2010 report is the final annual update on the results of USAID’s 2006–2010 health research strategy.
The report will be released over a five-week period. The first phase of the report launch will focus on USAID’s activities in HIV/AIDS research, including microbicides. For example, USAID supported a study released in July 2010 that showed a notable reduction in the risk of HIV infection associated with a vaginal microbicide gel. The first phase of the report launch will also focus on the role of science, technology, and innovation—as well as partnerships between nations, disciplines, organizations, sectors, and people—in advancing HIV/AIDS research and development.
