Investments in global health research “benefit lives” worldwide and can “be felt locally in the US,” according to blog post

December 14, 2010 -- “As the holidays are approaching,” it is important to remember that “supporting global health research and development is the ultimate gift,” according to a ONE Campaign blog. Investing in research and development (R&D) “saves lives and money and yields benefits for many years to come,” the post says, adding that new data from Research!America “demonstrates that investments in global health R&D don’t just benefit lives in remote places around the world, but can also be felt locally in the US as state economies are strengthened by global health research.” For example, global health activities in Washington state generate $4.1 billion of business activity and almost 3,700 state residents work in global health research or service delivery. The post concludes, “So, in a time of economic downturn, when many Americans justifiably are asking, ‘What’s in it for me?’ it’s encouraging to know that our investments abroad are reaping huge benefits at home, too. And that’s a gift we can all get excited about this holiday season.” See the link below for more details.
