President Obama announces partnership with Indonesia that will focus on science and health
November 10, 2010 -- During a recent visit to Indonesia as part of a ten-day Asia-Pacific tour, President Barack Obama and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced a partnership between the two nations that will focus on several key issues, including science, technology, and health. According to a White House press release, the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) are working with Indonesia under the partnership on research and strengthening Indonesia's health system. In March, the two countries signed a Science and Technology Agreement, which provides a framework for expanded bilateral cooperation and collaboration on science-based decision-making, health sciences, energy, marine research, and the environment.
