Innovation will play a key role in international development programs, USAID head says

August 18, 2010 -- Science and technology will play crucial roles in several international development programs by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the agency’s administrator Rajiv Shah said at a recent event in Seattle. One such initiative is Feed the Future, which aims to address hunger and increase food security worldwide through innovations such as drought-tolerant crops. Shah also discussed the Obama Administration’s commitment to international development, saying that President Obama “continues to live up to the overall commitment to develop foreign assistance." He added, “If we can continue to show things are really effective, generate results with the dollars and take efficiency very, very seriously, I believe Americans want to do more."
