Senator Brownback introduces bill to expand FDA’s Priority Review Voucher program
August 10, 2010 -- Senator Sam Brownback has introduced a bill that would expand the US Food and Drug Administration’s Priority Review Voucher (PRV) program to include rare and neglected pediatric diseases in the United States. The Creating Hope Act of 2010 builds on an existing law and would encourage research and development for treatments for rare pediatric conditions that might otherwise fail to attract sufficient funding. It is co-sponsored by Senators Sherrod Brown and Al Franken. The current PRV program awards a voucher to the sponsor of a newly approved drug or biologic that targets a neglected tropical disease, which entitles the bearer to a priority review for any future new drug application.
