Report highlights crucial role of PDPs in global health research
A new study in the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine’s journal International Health examines the role of product development partnerships in research and development (R&D) for neglected diseases worldwide.
Using unpublished data from the Global Funding of Innovation for Neglected Diseases project (G-FINDER), the study found that PDPs captured $469 million in R&D funding from external donors in 2007. In addition, PDP funding sources were concentrated primarily among the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the US Agency for International Development, the UK Department for International Development, the Dutch government, and Irish Aid. According to the study, PDPs collectively spent US$262 million on R&D activities in 2007. The study authors conclude that their analysis “confirms the central role played by PDPs in R&D for neglected diseases.” See the link below for more details.
