Women Deliver conference examines health innovations
Several speakers at the recent Women Deliver conference in Washington, DC, examined how a range of health technologies have benefited women worldwide. For example, Jeff Spieler—chief of the Research, Technology and Utilization Division of the Bureau for Global Health at the US Agency for International Development—examined contraceptive technologies currently under development and how these tools can help bridge unmet needs for women and men worldwide.
The International Partnership for Microbicides announced during the conference a new clinical trial to examine the efficacy of a vaginal ring microbicide. Hans Rosling of the Gapminder Foundation presented data on the link between new reproductive health technologies and reductions in maternal mortality. Several other speakers at Women Deliver examined some of the technological and scientific innovations currently in the pipeline aimed at widening access to contraception for women around the world.
