Important outcomes for health technologies from the annual World Health Assembly
During the annual World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, the World Health Organization passed a resolution focused on the prevention and treatment of pneumonia as part of efforts to reduce the child mortality rate. The resolution on pneumonia is the first of its kind, and seeks to improve access to vaccines and medicines for pneumonia, which is the leading killer of children under five.
In addition, the World Health Assembly created a new expert working group to evaluate innovative financing mechanisms for the development of new health technologies for the developing world. This new group continues the work of a previous expert working group on financing for research and development, and will issue its final report to the WHA is May 2012.
