Dengue fever reported in Florida, demonstrates importance of US role in combating global disease
Twenty-eight cases of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne virus, have been discovered in Key West, Florida, USA—an area of the United States that has not experienced incidences of the disease since the 1934. The outbreak of the virus, which can be transmitted from infected persons to mosquitoes and kills 25,000 people worldwide each year, demonstrates the importance of US leadership in research and development for tools to combat global health threats.
