Experimental dengue vaccine enters Phase III trials

November 5, 2010 -- Pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Pasteur has announced that its experimental dengue vaccine has entered Phase III clinical trials in Australia. The experimental vaccine is the first targeted at dengue that has reached the final stage of clinical development after successfully undergoing Phase I and II tests in the United States, Asia, and Latin America. The trial is part of a global program that aims to advance the development of a dengue vaccine for children and adults. Currently, there is no specific treatment available for dengue fever, which threatens nearly three billion people and is a public health priority in several countries in Latin America and Asia.
