Trade agreement could hinder generic drug access in developing countries, critics say
Some organizations and other critics are coming out against a potential trade agreement between India and the European Union that they say could hinder access to generic drugs in the developing world. According to some groups and Indian businesses, stricter intellectual property laws resulting from the agreement could make it harder for pharmaceutical companies in India to manufacture generic treatments for conditions such as HIV/AIDS.
