NIH, partners launch research project in Africa
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Wellcome Trust, and the African Society for Human Genetics recently launched the Human Heredity and Health in Africa Project. The NIH will provide $25 million over five years, and the Wellcome Trust has pledged at least $12 million over five years for the project. Through health and genetic research, the project aims to build the long-term capacity of African scientists and research institutions to conduct scientific studies on diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
